Above where my wife attends a sculpture studio is a restaurant that serves Ukrainian food, and never having tried this cuisine before, I was intrigued as to what it would be like. From the starters that consisted of some pickled or salted vegetables, cold cuts, pate and half a dozen salads, we chose the most outrageously named dish “Herring under a fur coat” which was delicious and Borscht (a beetroot soup made with beef stock). Asked what was a typical Ukrainian dish, we were directed to the many dumpling options, and chose a Chicken and Beef and a Cherry one (which although was in the mains listing, was in truth a dessert!) these too were very tasty but I fear we should have ordered some of the separately listed ‘Garnishes’ to go with them.

The owner, Natalia who has excellent command of English was not there at the time we placed our order with Irena, our waitress, who was somewhat less proficient; although, help was at hand from another of the diners. It is very much a family affair with Mum being the chef. It is a pleasant enough dining room with about 30 covers and an enclosed terrace with a further 20.

If we return we would seek Natalia’s guidance before ordering the meal.
