Most readers will know that I am a lover of the Master Chef series and none more so than the ‘Professionals’ This year the line up was extraordinary. I picked my finalists not far into the series and was pleased that last night the winner was announced and it was young Laurence Henry a 25 year old Sous Chef at Sat Bains’ Michelin starred restaurant in Nottingham. I had picked him and the third runner up Mathew, the youngest at 23 but already a Head chef in a Mayfair restaurant, who was eliminated just before the final three battled it out.

THE THREE FINALISTS, (l-r) Laurence, Oli and Dean

     THE WINNER LAURENCE HENRY

Oli Martin was incredible; his imagination and skill was extraordinary and he was quite humble for such a talent. Scotsman Dean Banks, a private chef, brought to the table his experiences gained working in different locations around the world.

I have been in this industry all my working life and am a passionate foodie and can fry a good chip to boot, but these guys are in a different league, I know that chefs today are young and it is a young man’s game, but these young men are on a different level.

MATHEW THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY

They all wowed the three judges, Marcus Wareing, Greg Wallace and Monica Galetti

As Marcus Wareing said, “these young men are the future.”

That cannot be denied.
