I ventured out for lunch the other day, with one of my closest pals, to the Playwright in Elviria. This highly popular eatery has been going for some years now and is always busy. On this Friday lunch there were 20 or so people enjoying the food on offer from their 16€ Menu del Día. There is plenty of choice on the menu the three starters that took my fancy were the Sticky Pork Belly with Vietnamese Salad & Cashew Nuts,  Seafood Wonton on a Bed of Buttered Cabbage with Sweet Chili & Ginger Butter and the Pan Seared Black Pudding with Apple & Honey Mustard Dressing As I had decided I would join my friend with a Belly of Pork for a main course I opted for the Seafood Wanton which was quite nice. He went for Vegetable Soup with Homemade Brown Bread.

Main Courses had a Thai Green Vegetable Curry, A pasta dish, a fish dish and a Burger with all the bits, but we opted for said Belly of Pork described as Slow Cooked Aromatic Pork Belly with Mash, Sautéed Baby Spinach & Cabbage & an Apple Cider Gel. In fairness it wasn’t the most tender belly I have eaten and regretfully the skin was rubbery not crispy although the addition of some ‘shredded’ crispy skin helped overcome the problem. The portions are not huge, nor would you expect them to be at this price, but was certainly adequate for me. The wine, ADM (Altos de Marques) from the Rioja is very pleasant and good value.

                   THE COMFORTABLE BAR AREA

Service is attentive and the whole thing good value for money. It is always very busy for Sunday Lunches where a two course menu at 20€ is served     or three course for 25€.

Their Christmas Day offering is 85€ but it doesn’t say whether that includes wines. New Years Eve is 135€ which only includes a half a bottle of wine per person and two glasses of Cava (one on arrival and one at midnight). Considering that the dishes on all the menus on offer seem to be a rotation of same it does prompt the question as to the value for money aspect, but then it’s the occasion that commands the money. Whatever, they will be full! So reserve on 952 83 08 68 (when booking please mention Lets Eat Marbella)
