Really simple dinner dish, ideal with a few glasses of red wine and good company!
I used a sirloin steak but you may well find fillet more tender and easier to cook.
5 minutes (rareish)
10 minutes (med well)
- 125g button mushrooms
- 6 cherry tomatoes, cut in half
- 1 small onion chopped
- 1 tsp tomato puree
- 1 cloves garlic crushed and chopped
- large glass of red wine (you know what to do with the rest)
- 2 x 200 gms medallions of fillet steak or two sirloin steaks at 200 gms each
- Splash of brandy
- 1 tsp of brown French mustard
- salt and black pepper
- 4 glugs of Worcestershire sauce.
- 4 dashes of Tabasco
- 100 ml of cream
- knob of butter
Step by Step Instructions
In a frying pan, add a knob of butter. When melted add the finely chopped onion and garlic and sautée until translucent.
Spread the steak on one side with the French mustard. Place face down in the pan. Seal for 30 seconds and turn. Add the mushrooms, the Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco, freshly ground black pepper and season with a little salt. Cook for a further one minute on either side. pour over a slug of brandy and ignite. Add the glass of wine, tomatoes and tomato purée. Remove the steaks and place on hot plates.
Serve with potatoes and vegetables to choice. The picture shown is not as appetising as the dish itself!
