As I said, I was going to pay a visit to the Kokomo restaurant at Nueva Atalaya just outside of Guadalmina; A landmark restaurant that has had many owners over the years, until established as Kokomo a few years ago.  I did and met the new owner, John Drew, who decided to keep the name as it is so well known in the area, a wise move in my opinion. He and his team have done a great job with reforming the established eatery while maintaining its’ beautiful woodwork. The tranquil garden setting gives you the impression of seclusion, despite only being minutes from the main careterra. The modern kitchen is under the auspices of my old friend and young chef extrordinaire, Maurice Curtin. Many regular foodies will remember his skills, if not his name, from such places as Nueva Campana and C’est si Bon and especially the creative culinary delights that were the original ‘Funky Tapas’. Since then he has honed his skills even more and with the encouragement of the enthusiastic foodie owner, has come up with some fabulous dishes. My amuse bouche was Chicken Pinchos with peanut sauce and amazing Oxtail Bon Bons. Crunchy balls of light delight. The taste buds kept getting teased by fresh Mackerel with Tomato and Garlic slice, slider of Pulled Pork with barbecue sauce and red cabbage slaw,  Honey and Soy glazed Belly of Pork with creamed potato; dessert lovers will be very happy to try the innovative Crème Brûlée and the deconstructed Black Forest Gateau. A selection of great wines and a gallery of gins make it a great place to while away an afternoon.

The restaurant offers an all day menu with a selection of great starters and dishes such as Fish and Chips (this is no ordinary fish and chips this is MC’s fish and chips) a selection of sliders, other fish dishes (look at last week’s special, Red Snapper with Black Rice and Jungle Curry) Rib Eye Steak and more, including some great side dishes. Try the Pommes Anna with Crispy Bacon, bursting with flavour
